1. Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence

A young boy named Shinta is saved by Hiko Seijuro and given the name Kenshin. He trains Kenshin in the ways of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, a peerless sword technique. As the civil war in Japan intensifies, young Keshin feels that it is his duty to help save the people. His involvement turns him into the most feared Hitokiri Battousai.

2. Full Moon wo Sagashite

Full Moon o Sagashite is based on the manga of the same title by Tanaemura Arina. The story focuses on 12-year old Mitsuki who loves to sing and wants to become a singer. However, she has a tumour in her throat, which might only be cured at the cost of her voice.

One day, two Shinigamis (gods of death from Japanese mythology), Takuto and Meroko, appear before her with news that she has only one year to live.

In order to realise her dream of becoming a singer, she prevails upon Takuto to transform her into a 16-year old girl and took part in a singing audition. Of course, she passes the audition and starts her singing career, but can she realise all her goals in the time she has left?

3. Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien

Narumi Takayuki is a third year, high school student who doesn't study very much for the college entrance exams. He passes his days neither studying, nor being able to find anything else interesting to do.

His friends Taira Shinji and Hayase Mizuki are both busy with studying and swimming, so Takayuki is left feeling very alone. Until one day, he meets a girl...

4. Fullmetal Alchemist

In this world, there exists people with special abilities to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. These people are known as alchemists. This process does come with a cost though, the basic law of alchemy states that to gain something you have to sacrifice something of the same value.

The main character is the famous alchemist Edward Elric - also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist - who almost lost his little brother, Alphonse, in an accident. Edward managed to contain his brother's soul in a large suit of armor. While he did manage to save his brother's life, he had to pay a great price himself.

To get back what they've lost, the brothers embark on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone that is said to amplify the powers of an alchemist enormously.

5. Elfen Lied

The Diclonius (two-horned human) are mutants created by humans. It has a special ability that can be described as a sixth sense. These mutants have enough power to exterminate the whole human race. Afraid of their powers, people isolate them in research labs to be studied.

One Diclonius girl, Lucy, breaks out of confinement, kills her guards and escapes. She fell into the ocean after being shot and ends up on a beach. There, she meets Kota and Yuka. They name her Nyu and begin to live with her.

6. Cowboy Bebop

The year is 2071 AD. With the systematic collapse of the old nation-states, a mixed jumble of races and peoples were driven out of their terrestrial Eden and spread to the stars, taking with them the now confused concepts of justice, freedom, violence, and love. New rules were established, and a new generation of bounty hunters came into being. People referred to these bounty hunters as “cowboys.”

Meet Spike and Jet, a drifter and a retired cyborg cop who have started a bounty hunting partnership. In the converted ship The Bebop, Spike and Jet search the galaxy for criminals with bounties on their heads. They meet a lot of interesting characters, including the unusually intelligent dog Ein, the bizarre hacker child prodigy Ed, and the voluptuous and vexing femme fatale, Faye Valentine.

7. Hikaru no Go

Shindoh Hikaru, a 6th grader, finds an old go table in the attic of his grandfather's house. He sees some blood stains on the go table, and tries to wipe it off... when a ghost dressed in Heian period clothes pops out, and takes over his body.

The ghost happens to be Fujiwara no Sai, a member of the court during the Heian period. Sai was one of the two men who was assigned as the go tutor to the emperor. The other tutor was envious of Sai, and challenged him to a go match -- whoever wins gets to stay as the court's go master. Sai's opponent cheats during the match, and before Sai could say anything about it, the opponent accused Sai of cheating. Sai was banished from the court, and because of regret and anger, he committed suicide. But as with all unrepented souls, Sai was unable to leave the material world... until he is able to master go, and get one step closer to "kami no itte," or god's hand.

8. Berserk

Gatts, an incredibly powerful warrior, is a lone swordsman in a medieval-fantasy world. He loses in a battle with a mysterious swordsman named Griffith, who holds a powerful pendant called the Eye of God. As the story progresses, secrets are revealed and the darkest depths of fantasy combat and political intrigue are explored.

9. One Piece

It was a time when pirates ruled the seas. Several bands of pirates were battling over the great hidden treasure, One Piece, which was left by the now legendary pirate king, Gol D. Roger. There was a young boy who admired pirates. His name was Luffy. One day, he mistakenly eats a devil's fruit turning himself into a rubber man.

Ten years have passed since that incident. Luffy sets out to sea all alone. He sets out to become a great pirate captain and his great adventure begins. “I'm going to be the Pirate King! I'm going to get One Piece!"

10. Gundam SEED

The confrontation between the Earth Alliance (Naturals) and Zaft (Coordinators), which originated in economic friction, reached a stalemate. Ultimately, the two sides opted for the last resort of diplomacy - in other words, they went to war. Our story begins roughly a year later. Heliopolis, a resource satellite belonging to a neutral nation, is suddenly attacked by a Zaft mobile suit force. Their goal is to seize the Atlantic Alliance's newest Gundam mobile suits, which the Alliance has produced here amid total secrecy. The raid is successful, and Zaft captures four of the Gundams. Kira Yamato, a student at an industrial college, is drawn into the conflict when he is reunited with his old friend Aslan Zara. Tragically, Kira finds that his comrade Aslan and the other Coordinators are now his enemies. For patriotism's sake, Aslan sets out to defeat Kira. One against four... the battle of the Gundams begins!

11. Fruits Basket

Fruits Basket is the story of a young high-school girl, Honda Tohru. Having lost her mother in a car accident, she has come to live alone in a tent in the forest near her school. Never a quiitter, she strives to honor her mother's memory and work hard to do the best she can with her life.

One day, she happens across a house in the woods, not far from her makeshift abode. The residents, Sohma Yuki and his cousin Shigure, aren't total strangers. Sohma is the coolest guy at Tohru's school!

Will the chance encounter lead to new friendships, and perhaps, a new romance? Why all the talk of the Chinese Zodiac? Why is the title "Fruits Basket"?

12. 12 Kokuki

Based on a novel of the same title written by Ono Fuyumi (published by Kodansha), the story is about Yoko Nakajima, a girl who felt compelled to keep up an image of being a model student both in school and also at home.

One day, a man named Keiki showed up suddenly and recognised Yoko as his master. From that moment on, her life began to change dramatically.

Along with a couple of her classmates, she was taken by Keiki into a fantasy world made up of 12 Kingdoms. There, she became lost and separated from Keiki. Hunted by demons and mistreated by everyone (even her own classmates), she becomes strong through the ordeals she faced in order to survive in the world of the 12 Kingdoms and uncovers the destiny that lay in store for her.

13. Last EXILE

The world of Prestel, where the polluted atmosphere of the industrial revolution still lingers; where, underneath the wind and clouds, two countries, Anatorel and Dysis, confront one another in war; and where a terrible and exciting story is about to begin.

There lives Klaus Valca, a 15 year old who, using the vanship (a small flying ship) left behind by his father, made his home in the sky along with his childhood friend Lavie Head, who is also 15.

Their dream was to surpass their fathers, to do what they couldn't and fly through the eternal storm known as the "Grand Stream". However, one day, a mysterious girl, Alvis Hamilton, aged 11, is entrusted to them by a wounded vanship pilot. With his dying breath, the pilot passes on his mission to Claus, to deliver Alvis as cargo to Alex Rou, captain of the flying battleship Silvana. One thing leads to the next, and soon Claus and Ravi find themselves being dragged into a battle that will decide the fate of the world.

14. Hunter X Hunter

Gon is a young boy who wants to be a Hunter. There are various types of Hunters in his world, and being a Hunter gives one certain priviliges. Before you can become a Hunter you have to pass a test. Gon seems well on his way to passing this test as he's a very bright lad who is able to communicate with animals. Apparently his father, long believed to be dead, is still alive and was once one of the greatest Hunters in existance. Gon believes he will be able to meet his father once he becomes a Hunter himself.

15. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!

This second installment of Full Metal Panic follows the manga closely. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! consists of short episodes chronicling events taking place mostly within the school. It follows a light theme packed with comedy.

School is supposed to be a peaceful study environment. Not anymore... Today is a typical morning with Sagara blowing up Kaname's shoe-locker because he suspected that it had been tampered with. In actual fact, it was only someone leaving a love letter for Kaname...

16. Neon Genesis Evangelion

In the year 2015, half of the human race is dead, and the survivors face extinction at the hands of giant biotechnology experiments called Angels.

Within the headquarters of the secretive organization called NERV, a special United Nations agency located in Tokyo-3, a handful of teenagers are trained to pilot the colossal super-entities known as Evangelions and battle the Angels on their own terms... whatever the cost to their minds and souls.

Shinji Ikari, whose father heads the NERV team that developed and maintains the Evangelions, is thrust into a maelstrom of battles and events that he does not understand. He is forced to plumb the depths of himself for the courage and strength to not only fight, but to survive...

17. Hajime no Ippo

George Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo (The First Step) manga published by Kodansha in Shonen Magazine is headed for a TV series anime adaptation in Japan as well as the PlayStation 2 game. Hajime no Ippo focuses on a young boxer, Magunochi Ippo.

Magunochi Ippo is an ordinary high school student in Japan. Since he spends most of his time away from school helping his mother run the family business, he doesn't get to enjoy his younger years like most teenagers. Always a target for bullying at school (the family fishing business grants him a distinct odor), Ippo's life is one of hardship.

One of these after-school bullying sessions turns Ippo's life around for the better, as he is saved by a boxer named Takamura. He decides to follow in Takamura's footsteps and train to become a boxer, giving his life direction and purpose. Ippo's path to perfecting his pugilistic prowess is just beginning ...

18. GunGrave

The snow is silently falling down onto the roofs of the skyscrapers. Everything begins in this idyllic scenery. A little girl drags a huge attach case behind her, leaving a trace of blood on the piled up snow.

This mysterious girl carries Kerberos in her small arms and the Shinigami, one of the god of death, called "Beyond the Grave" awakens! The grave stands behind an organization with mighty bosses. They are pale creatures in human form that lunge at humans to bring them beyond.

How does "Harry", the Boss of the organization, linked to "Grave"? And how does the mysterious little girl look like in her true form? In this city, where heaven and earth are closely connected, the Shinigami roar! The souls of the human beings will cry out, because in the battle of "Rave" everything will find an end!

19. Great Teacher Onizuka

Tough on the outside, all heart on the inside, Onizuka turned to the life of a high school teacher for less excitement and action . . .or so he thought. GTO, A.K.A.: Great Teacher Onizuka, is the racy story of Onizuka, a former motorcycle gang member who becomes a teacher to make a difference and... to meet girls? Using his street smarts to deal with colleagues, students and troublemakers, Onizuka finds that he too has many lessons to learn!

20. Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daio is originally serialized in a very popular "Electric Shock Daio" manga. The story revolves around high school girls. Each main characters have colorful and attractive personality for comic fans, such as gifted 10 years old highschool girl, cool highschool girl, natural highschool girl, highschool girl with glasses and weird older teachers. Based on four panel comic, each episode is rather short around five minutes.

Azumanga Daio also appeared as a short online movie, know as Azumanga Web Daio. Apparently they were also giving out free DVD of a short movie in March and April edition of Dengeki Daio magazine.

21. Scrapped Princess

An abandoned princess buried into darkness right after birth, she was prophesied to destroy the world at the age of 16. This, though the truth, was forbidden to be spoken by anyone in this country. The so-called "abandoned princess" was in fact, the youngest of the three "Kasull" siblings, by the name of Pacifica.

Assassins come forth one after another to take her life which was not supposed to be in existence. Shannon and Raquel swore to protect their sister from the wicked hands of the assassins.

22. Vision of Escaflowne

Hitomi Kanzaki is a typical high school girl, with all the regular high school problems. But when a vision of a young man battling a dragon becomes a reality, her life changes forever. Drawn into a strange vortex with the swordsman, Van, Hitomi is thrust into the strange world of Gaia.

Entangled in a struggle over life and death, Van must learn to master the suit of armor, Escaflowne. Chased by the Empire of Zaibach, Van and Hitomi will encounter both allies and enemies in an effort to unlock the secrets within Escaflowne.

23. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) is a story about a high-school freshman, Suzumiya Haruhi, and those who are caught up in her antics. On the first day of school, she introduced herself in a bizarre way.

“From East Middle School, Suzumiya Haruhi. I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, time travelers, sliders, or espers here.. come join me. That is all!”

Her classmates wondered whether she was serious or just kidding around. Kyon, a fellow freshman who sits in front of Haruhi, was interested in her because of her strange introduction. Little by little, he tried to talk to her, but Haruhi's answers would always be "Shut up!" "Moron!" "Be quiet!" "Who cares about that!?". However, as the days went by, Kyon becomes the first ever to talk normally with Haruhi and eventually inspired her to form the SOS Brigade which sole purpose is to find aliens, time travelers and espers, and have fun with them.

24. Rahxephon

In the year 2012, a mysterious organisation called "MU" suddenly attacks Tokyo.

At the time, Ayato Kamina is just a regular high school student. His father had passed away when he was young, and his mother works for the government. Ayato meets a mysterious woman named Reika Mishima and discovers the existence of the angel-winged giant robot, Rahxephon. Apparently, Rahxephon is synchronised with Ayato. Might he be the key to Japan's salvation?

25. Haibane Renmei

When a young girl, Rekka, wakes up from a dream, she finds a ring of light over her head and she is welcomed by a group of girls who had wings on them.

Rekka then becomes a member of the Haibane Alliance, the group who protects the town of Guri, enclosed by walls.

Why did Rekka become a Haibane? Who were the Haibane? As Rekka continues her life in the peaceful town of Guri, the mystery behind her new friends begin to be revealed.
